Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabari Rice step up when Texas needs it most

The senior guard/wing duo of Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabari Rice certainly rose to the occasion in the final round of the Big 12 Tournament. After having some rather inefficient offensive showings in Texas’ first two outings in the Big 12 Tournament, Rice and Carr came alive in this dominant win over Kansas.

This duo combined for a whopping 34 points on 15-of-27 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Most of the offensive production from Carr and Rice, though, came inside the arc. Only three of the 34 points on the day from these two came from deep.

Carr and Rice were able to find some open lanes to drive to the basket and finish through contact. I can’t say enough about the way that these two provided an offensive spark in the backcourt for the Longhorns.

This is exactly what Texas needed out of these two to be able to take down a rock-solid opponent in the biggest stage of the Big 12 Tournament such as the Jayhawks.

To put the cherry on top, it’s worth noting that both Carr and Rice were +17 on the floor in this game.

Rice’s efforts earned him the second conference tournament crown of his collegiate career. He’s also now won two conference tournaments in a row as New Mexico State won the WCC crown last season.

Meanwhile, Carr got a well-deserved major conference tournament crown for the first time in his collegiate career with this win over the Jayhawks.
