In just a few hours, we will know the fate of No. 7 ranked Texas basketball in the Big Dance on Selection Sunday. Texas and interim head coach Rodney Terry technically still have an outside shot at a one-seed in the NCAA Tournament on March 12. But it is a long shot at best for Texas to get one of the four regional one seeds on Selection Sunday.

Terry and the Longhorns head into Selection Sunday with a record of 26-8 (12-6 Big 12) following a dominant 76-56 win in the Big 12 Men’s Tournament final over the top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, MO, on March 11. Texas cleared through a field that included the seven-seed Oklahoma State Cowboys, six-seed TCU Horned Frogs, and one-seed Kansas in the Big 12 Tournament this week.

Texas has won four straight games heading into Selection Sunday, dating back to another double-digit victory over the Jayhawks in the regular season finale at home at the Moody Center in Austin on March 4.

So, where do the Longhorns sit in terms of the final Bracketology projections on Selection Sunday?

Where Rodney Terry and Texas basketball sit in the latest Bracketology on March 12

Let’s start off by mentioning that the Longhorns are currently projected as a two-seed in the NCAA Tournament by TeamRankings. The projections for the NCAA Tournament from TeamRankings give Texas a 21 percent chance of nabbing a one-seed.

ESPN

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi projects Texas as a two-seed in the South Region, which would match them up against the 15-seed UNC Asheville.

USA Today

There is nothing new in terms of USA Today’s projections compared to the latest round of Bracketology from ESPN’s Lunardi. USA Today pegs Texas as a two-seed in the South Region against the 15-seed UNC Asheville.

CBS Sports

Last but not least, CBS Sports also projects Texas as the two-seed in the South Region. But CBS Sports doesn’t have the full matchup for Texas in the Round of 64.

Another commonality between all of the major outlets projecting Texas’ spot on Selection Sunday in the NCAA Tournament is that Terry and the Longhorns are slotted as the sixth-best team overall. It sounds very likely that Terry and the Longhorns will be facing a 15-seed in the South Region (Louisville) in the Round of 64.
