Texas vs. Colgate preview
This will be a matchup between two of the most efficient offensive teams in the entire country this season. Colgate ranks second in the NCAA in offensive rating (115.2), second in field goal percentage (51.4), and leads in three-point shooting percentage (40.8).
Yet, Colgate is more vulnerable on the defensive end of the floor, ranking 158th in the country in defensive rating on the season (101.0).
Texas will also be the best team that Colgate has faced all season. According to Sports Reference, Texas is by far the best team that Colgate has faced this season in terms of its standing in the simple rating system.
As long as Texas can avoid beating itself while effectively contesting Colgate on the defensive end, this game should be very winnable for Terry’s squad. Texas has a multitude of routes it can take to win this matchup against Colgate, while the Raiders will have to do more than just shoot the lights out at Wells Fargo Arena to pull off the upset.
Texas opened up as a 14-point favorite over Colgate in this Round of 64 matchup. That line has stayed pretty steady (per DraftKings Sportsbook) in the last few days, as the Longhorns remain a 13.5-point favorite over the Raiders.
