A big game for interim head coach Rodney Terry and the two-seed Texas basketball to make it out of the Round of 64 saw this squad control this contest on March 16 against the 15-seed Colgate Raiders. Texas was able to win both halves in this Round of 64 matchup against Colgate, en route to a commanding win by the final score of 81-61.

Not only did Terry and the Longhorns reel in their second consecutive Round of 64 win (dating back to last season), but they also got the biggest margin of victory for a two-seed since the Villanova Wildcats last year. Villanova downed the 15-seed Delaware Blue Hens last season in the NCAA Tournament, also by a margin of 20 points.

Texas got it done on both ends of the floor by playing its style of game. One of the most impressive parts of this game for the Longhorns was the ability to hold the nation’s best three-point shooting team to just 3-of-15 from deep.

That is the worst three-point shooting percentage for the Raiders since the middle of the 2021-22 campaign.

Following this big win over Colgate on March 16, Texas will face the winner of the seven-seed Texas A&M Aggies and the 10-seed Penn State Nittany Lions on the night of March 16.

Here’s a look at two studs and one dud from the Longhorns’ 20-point win over Colgate in the Round of 64.

Stud No. 1: Dylan Disu, PF/C

The hot play of senior big man Dylan Disu continued in this dominant win over Colgate on March 16. After putting up 17 points on an efficient 8-of-11 shooting from the field, Disu extended his streak of games scoring in double figures to four. He’s also registered at least a half-dozen rebounds in each of the last four games.

Disu got it done on both ends of the floor with some gritty work in the paint as he has proven to be an invaluable commodity to this frontcourt unit in the last few weeks.

There were plenty of tough finishes through contact that Disu had in the paint, and he also had a couple of nice plays in transition that resulted in points for the Longhorns.

All told, Disu finished up this game with the aforementioned 17 points, along with a team-high nine rebounds (two offensive boards), one assist, and one block. Disu continued to stuff a lot of production in limited minutes on the floor, mostly due to foul trouble.

Disu averaged a whopping .78 points per minute in just over 20 minutes on the floor in this game.

The way that Disu has played in the last few weeks for the Longhorns has given this frontcourt unit the exact boost it needed, especially with senior forward Timmy Allen still on a minute limit due to his lower-body injury that caused him to miss the entirety of the Big 12 Tournament. As long as Disu is playing this well in the frontcourt for Texas, this team is going to be a tough out for any team in the NCAA Tournament.
