Dud No. 1: Dillon Mitchell, F

Without a doubt, the most disappointing performance for any Longhorns player in this game came courtesy of the former elite five-star recruit and true freshman forward Dillon Mitchell. The uber-talented freshman forward managed zero points with no attempts from the field and 0-of-2 shooting from the free-throw line.

And while Mitchell did get the start in this game for the Longhorns, it didn’t mean much since he got just 11 minutes on the floor. This is the third time this month that Terry limited Mitchell to 11 minutes or fewer in a game, despite being in the starting lineup.

I was hoping to see Mitchell contribute in more ways on the glass and on the defensive end of the floor. His length seemed like it would help the Longhorns disrupt some of the efficient shooting of the Raiders.

But that proved to be a moot point as Texas found a way to hold Colgate to 18 points fewer than its season average (78.6) while cutting its average three-point shooting percentage on the season in half (40.8).

The return of Allen to the lineup also meant that someone had to get fewer minutes in the forward rotation. And that person wound up being Mitchell more so than anyone else.

All in all, literally the only mark that Mitchell made on this game in a positive sense in the box score for the Longhorns was one defensive rebound.

To be fair, though, it’s hard to ask too much out of a player that has essentially seen his playing time dwindle to close to nothing, especially considering he’s still a regular starter.
