The four-seed Texas and head coach Vic Schaefer are looking to advance past the 13-seed ECU in the Round of 64.

Texas has advanced past the first round of the NCAA Tournament in each of the prior two years, and it is pretty heavily favored to top ECU this weekend.

The Longhorns come into the Round of 64 with a record of 25-9 (14-4 Big 12) following a tough 61-51 loss at the hands of the Iowa State Cyclones in the final round of the Big 12 Women’s Tournament on March 12. Although, Texas did claim the Big 12 regular season title over the Oklahoma Sooners.

Meanwhile, ECU comes into this game with a record of 23-9 (11-5 AAC) following a hard-fought 46-44 win over the Houston Cougars in the AAC Women’s Tournament Final on March 9. ECU is streaking heading into the NCAA Tournament, having won three games in a row and nine of its last 10.

Texas vs. ECU prediction

This will be the first time that Texas and ECU have faced each other on the hardwood in the history of each women’s hoops program.

Moreover, this is the first NCAA Tournament appearance for the Pirates since 2007. It is also only the third NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. In its two prior tourney appearances, ECU lost in the first round.

On the other hand, this is the Longhorns’ ninth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Texas has made it past the Sweet 16 in each of the last two years, and definitely has the path to do it again this postseason.
