3 players that can get Texas basketball from Sweet 16 to Final Four
For the first time since 2008, the Texas basketball program is off to the Sweet 16. Texas and interim head coach Rodney Terry advanced past the Round of 32 thanks to a clutch win over the 10-seed Penn State Nittany Lions at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, IA, on the night of March 18.
Terry and the two-seed Longhorns will now face the winner of the three-seed Xavier Musketeers and 11-seed Pitt Panthers, who are duking it out in the Round of 32 early in the day on March 19.
To get to this point, Terry and the Longhorns had some impressive performances. And it wasn’t just the fact that the Longhorns are in the Sweet 16 that makes this run so impressive, it’s the way they got it done.
Dylan Disu and the key contributors that can get Texas basketball to the Final Four
Texas was able to have a season-best shooting night from deep in its Round of 64 win over the 15-seed Colgate Raiders on March 16. And then, the Longhorns had its worst shooting night from deep on the season against Penn State this weekend. But a solid effort from senior big man Dylan Disu combined with good defense against the Nittany Lions was enough to get Texas the five-point win in the Round of 32.
Being able to win despite some really varied circumstances in the NCAA Tournament thus far is a sign of a solid team that the Longhorns have this season.
But the journey is not over yet. Texas still has a big opportunity and a relatively favorable path to make it to the Final Four. With that in mind, here’s a look at three players that can take the Longhorns from the Sweet 16 to the Final Four.
