Texas Football: 3 LSU commits the Longhorns are trying to flip this spring
This will be a very busy week on the recruiting trail for the Texas football coaches. Not only does Texas get back to work in spring camp in terms of on-field practice following the conclusion of spring break last week, but it also has a pretty massive visitor weekend upcoming on March 24 and 25.
The second Junior Day of the offseason for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns will take place this coming weekend. The first took place on the weekend of Jan. 21, when the Longhorns hosted some of its top priority recruits in the 2024 and 2025 classes.
Texas is building another impressive visitor list for this coming weekend’s Junior Day festivities. Among those visiting recruits this weekend for Junior Day will be a handful of commits from rival schools on the trail.
2024 LSU commits Texas football is chipping away at this spring
With that in mind, here’s a look at three LSU commits that the Longhorns are trying to flip this spring.
Khayree Lee, IOL
One of the “big humans” that offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns are pursuing in the trenches in the 2024 class is the towering 6-foot-5 and 335-pound LSU commit Khayree Lee. The three-star Marrero John Ehret (LA) interior offensive lineman really impressed Flood last fall, which earned him a Texas offer in October.
But it wasn’t much longer after Lee received the Texas scholarship offer that he wound up committing to head coach Brian Kelly and LSU. Lee committed to Texas in early November 2022, choosing the Tigers over offers from the Ole Miss Rebels, Florida State Seminoles, Tennessee Volunteers, and Texas, among many others.
Lee’s commitment to LSU last fall didn’t stop Flood and the Longhorns from recruiting the enormous Louisiana native offensive lineman, though. There was a point in time when Lee was on Texas’ Junior Day visitor list for late January. And while that visit didn’t wind up coming to fruition, it is worth noting that Texas was still making the push for him early this offseason.
Sark did make the visit to Louisiana to see Lee a couple of months ago as reported by On3’s Sam Spiegelman.
And if Sark is taking the time this offseason to visit Lee, that is a good sign that he is still on the Longhorns’ radar in 2023, despite committing to LSU in early November.
We will continue to monitor to see how much Texas pushes for the three-star LSU commit heading into the summer. But the early signs are that the Texas coaches will continue to stay in communication with Lee this offseason.
