A welcome sight at the first spring practice for Texas football since the week of spring break, redshirt junior wide receiver Isaiah Neyor made his return to drills for the first time since last fall. Multiple reports and sightings on social media on the morning of March 21 indicated that Neyor was able to participate in practice drills early this week.

It sounds like, while Neyor still isn’t close to 100 percent this spring, he was able to look pretty good going through the wide receiver drills in practice on March 21.

A report from Jeff Howe of Horns247 on March 21 (paid content) indicates that Neyor made his first appearance during the media availability window at practice in wide receiver drills since he originally suffered the unfortunate season-ending knee injury in a scrimmage last fall camp.

And while Neyor wasn’t a full participant in this practice, this is some of the best news we’ve heard regarding the rehabbing of the knee injury since last fall.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian also stated during his press conference on March 21 that Neyor “has looked as good as he’s looked” since originally suffering the knee injury last fall.

Sark also mentioned during his Tuesday press conference that he “has high expectations for Neyor” heading into the 2023 campaign.

Another important note regarding Neyor’s injury status is that he reportedly still joined the rest of the rehabbing players in the first spring practice of this week after participating in wide receiver drills.

Moreover, Neyor’s progress is pretty unmistakable at this point as it sounds like he is ahead of schedule in terms of his rehab timeline compared to some earlier reports we heard in the months prior to the start of spring ball. It was just last week that he put the pads on in practice in front of the media for the first time since last fall.

He is now already practicing in wide receiver drills in front of the media roughly just 10 days later, granted in a limited fashion with a big brace on that right knee.

Neyor will be in the midst of a very talented group of Texas wideouts this year that includes new additions such as junior AD Mitchell, true freshman Johntay Cook II, and true freshman DeAndre Moore Jr. The former Wyoming Cowboys transfer is one of the returning wideouts for the Longhorns that is expected to be a major contributor to the offense alongside junior Xavier Worthy and redshirt senior Jordan Whittington.

Texas began spring camp with the first practice on March 6. Following the conclusion of another padded practice on March 21, the Longhorns now have a little less than a dozen days of drills remaining until the annual Orange-White spring football game on April 15.
