Texas Football: Predicting Longhorns first transfer addition of the spring
This cycle in the NCAA Transfer Portal is starting to pick back up this spring in terms of the headlines concerning the Texas football program and head coach Steve Sarkisian. Texas looks to be making a couple of key moves in the transfer portal this spring, which wasn’t necessarily an expected occurrence.
Barring any can’t-miss grad transfers showing up in the portal in the midst of spring camp, I was initially anticipating the Longhorns would wait until after the conclusion of the Orange-White Game next month to make any big moves on the open market.
Texas will take part in the spring football game on April 15, and then the coaching staff will likely evaluate the personnel needs during the next window opening.
The next portal window opportunity for underclassmen to enter their names on the transfer market will be late next month. That will be a time when Sark and the Longhorns staff can make the necessary moves to address any looming roster needs that surfaced during their spring ball evaluation period.
Potential portal targets that Texas football could land this spring
If Texas does bring in any portal players this spring, it would mostly be from a pool of graduate transfers that entered their names over the course of the last month or two. And I would obviously expect Texas to address some of the more obvious depth needs on each side of the ball before reaching for any other moves via the portal later this spring.
With this in mind, here’s a look at three names to watch that could be the first portal pickups of the spring for the Longhorns.
