Texas Football: Predicting Longhorns first transfer addition of the spring
Jeffery Clark, DL
The two positions of need that I believe are the most pronounced for Texas this spring are linebacker and defensive line. Those are probably the two thinnest and/or most inexperienced among each group on both sides of the ball this spring.
That’s why I’m harping on the idea of the Longhorns adding more depth to the defensive line with a more proven graduate transfer out of the portal, maybe after spring camp concludes in a little less than one month.
Moreover, another name that could be an interesting addition out of the portal along the defensive line for the Longhorns is the former Georgia State Panthers junior defensive lineman Jeffery Clark. The third-year 6-foot and 280-pound defensive lineman is coming off a very productive three-year career at Georgia State where he was in the starter rotation every single season.
Last fall was Clark’s most productive season to date at Georgia State as he registered nearly 40 combined tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, 30 quarterback pressures, and 18 stops.
Clark’s specialty is mostly as a pass rusher that can drum up some consistent interior pressure on opposing quarterbacks. He has registered more than 50 career quarterback pressures and had one of the 10 highest pressure rates of any defensive linemen in the Sun Belt last season.
I am not advocating for Texas to add Clark to come in and be a starter right away. But if Texas is looking for some consistency and proven depth to be able to get at opposing quarterbacks, especially with the aforementioned losses of Coburn and Ojomo, Clark could be the type of DL Davis and the Longhorns go after.
