The Midwest Region in the NCAA Tournament is still chalk full of talented teams. No. 2 Texas will take on No. 3 Xavier in the Sweet 16, and it’s not like there have been any major upsets on the other side of the region either.

If Texas gets by Xavier, the Longhorns will have to take on No. 1 Houston or No. 5 Miami.

But, if the Longhorns are going to capture the National title, they need to start by beating Xavier in the Sweet 16.

When was the Longhorns last National Championship?

Well in Football, 2005, but in basketball, never. The Longhorns have never been the final team standing in the NCAA basketball tournament.

They routinely stalled out in the tournament when Rick Barnes was running the program and even Kevin Durant couldn’t get them to a championship, but could this be the year?

Let’s take a look at their odds:

Texas’s odds to win the National Championship

Texas is in a loaded region that still has mostly all of the top teams still standings. Houston is looming as the No. 1 seed in the region, but first they have to get past Xavier who looked very strong in the round of 32 against Pitt.

Texas is a veteran team with a strong backcourt in Tyrese Hunter and Marcus Carr, Dylan Disu is playing as well as any forward in the country right now and Sir’Jabari Rice is the classic heat check guard off the bench.

I love the construction of this team and KenPom loves them too. They’ve 10th in adjusted offense and 15th in adjusted defense ranking them fifth overall, but with almost no chaos at the top of their region, DraftKings Sportsbook has the Longhorns at +1000.

That’s my favorite bet of any right now and Texas has been my pick to win it all from the very start of the tournament.
