The best finisher that Texas has close to the basket of late is without a doubt the senior big man Disu. The red-hot 6-foot-9 and 220-pound big man had a record-breaking night in Texas’ Round of 32 win over Penn State last weekend.

Disu set the single-game NCAA Tournament field goal record for the Longhorns, surpassing the Texas legend Kevin Durant with 14 in the 71-66 win over the Nittany Lions. And he did all that while shooting an ultra-efficient 70 percent from the field.

For this entire season, Disu has scored at an extremely efficient level from almost every distance area within 15 feet of the basket. He actually ranks in the 93rd percentile or higher (per CBB Analytics) in field goal percentage at the basket, in the paint, and from the mid-range.

Disu’s shot chart inside the arc this season essentially looks like it has a sunburn it looks so red-hot.

Yet, it’s not just high-percentage looks right at the basket that allows Disu to get the job done in the last few weeks. He’s also a solid mid-range scorer that has a nice floater game and can pull up from anywhere within 15 or 18 feet of the basket.

Disu proves that he has a solid fundamental shooting stroke with his efficient shooting from the charity stripe in the last three seasons. Since the 2020-21 season, Disu has shot better than 77 percent from the free-throw line after going just 54.8 percent from the line as a true freshman.

And we don’t have to look back all that far to find a season when Disu was an adept three-point shooter on a consistent basis when he was still at Vanderbilt. During the 2020-21 season, Disu shot around 37 percent from deep on nearly four attempts per game. That is a good sample size and proves that Disu is able to still be a proficient threat as a stretch big man when the system he’s playing in calls for it.

All in all, Disu has shown me more than enough in terms of shooting efficiency and shot-making versatility this season to say that he is one of the best shooters for the Longhorns.

Two stats that put the statement that Disu is one of the best shooters on the team this season are true shooting percentage (65.5) and effective field goal percentage (63.6). He leads the team among the core rotation players in both of those shooting stats this season.
