Rodney Terry very likely deserves the full-time job

I still have the same opinion on the coaching situation for the Longhorns that I did before the start of the Big 12 Men’s Tournament earlier this month.

Terry deserves the job since he was able to win the Big 12 Tournament crown for the Longhorns while leading them past the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. And if you add in the fact that Terry and this staff have kept together the two uber-talented five-star signees in the 2023 recruiting class, there are a lot of boxes that he’s checked in the last couple of months to get the interim tag removed.

It’s only an added bonus that Terry has a great relationship with the nation’s No. 1 ranked high school recruit in the 2024 class, five-star Dallas Lake Highlands shooting guard/wing Tre Johnson.

At this point, the only way I would say that Terry shouldn’t be the next full-time Texas men’s hoops head coach is if athletic director Chris del Conte can nab one of two potential coaching candidates. Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan and the former Villanova Wildcats two-time National Championship-winning head coach Jay Wright are the only two names I would realistically consider to be worthy candidates compared to Terry heading into the offseason.

Terry has done more than enough to prove that he deserves this job. And I would assume that most Texas fans agree with that take at the moment.
