After a special postseason run that ended in the Elite Eight on March 26, interim head coach Rodney Terry reportedly now holds an offer to be the full-time head coach for the Texas basketball program. A report from Horns247 on the night of March 26 indicates that Texas offered Terry the full-time head coaching position following the Elite Eight run this postseason.

"If an agreement can be reached quickly, an announcement of Terry being named the head coach at Texas could come as early as Tuesday, the source told Horns247.“Rodney Terry stepped up and did an amazing, classy job leading this program and absolutely deserves this opportunity,” the source told Horns247."

This is the news that a lot of Longhorns basketball fans were waiting for to hear the verdict on the coaching situation heading into the offseason. And judging by the reaction on the message boards and on social media, there are still some mixed thoughts regarding the potential hire of Terry as Texas’ next full-time head coach.

And while it is big news that the Longhorns already reportedly offered Terry the full-time head coaching gig, that still doesn’t mean anything is official and/or announced by the university at this moment.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the reaction from fans and social media in general following the news that Texas offered Terry the full-time head coaching gig.

These are still some of the reservations that are being voiced on social media regarding the head coaching gig getting offered to Terry.

It doesn’t seem like the strongest take at the moment to say that Terry and Shaka Smart are going to be comparable situations.

All in all, this is probably the move that is best for the Longhorns. There will be varying opinions on the matter, but Texas probably had to give Terry a short at least on a short-term deal. He took this team farther in the postseason than any other coach since Rick Barnes in the 2000s and it looks like he can continue some of the success the Longhorns found on the recruiting trail in the last couple of cycles.
