Among the more interesting recruits that visited Texas for Junior Day and the cookout this weekend was the 6-foot-4 and 270-pound three-star Lafayette Christian Academy (LA) defensive lineman Melvin Hills.

Hills made his second trip to the Forty Acres of 2023  for Junior Day on March 25. This is also the second time that Hills has visited Texas for Junior Day this offseason, as his first trip of 2023 came on the weekend of Jan. 21.

There are plenty of encouraging signs in terms of where Texas stands in the race to land a commitment from the talented Louisiana defensive lineman coming out of the Junior Day visit. Hills even reportedly stated that he plans on “leaving Louisiana” this weekend after the Junior Day festivities concluded on March 25.

It’s also worth noting that Hills got an official visit date on the books with Texas this weekend, which is set for the weekend of June 17. He will also likely make official visits to see the Georgia Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels, and Texas A&M this offseason.

Moreover, Hills has a fantastic relationship built with Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis, who has put some extra time into this recruitment in the last few months. It sounds like Hills is one of the defensive line offers that Davis and the Longhorns are really prioritizing this spring.
