In the midst of the third week of spring ball, head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program are in full swing in full-pads practice. Texas took part in its first open scrimmage of spring camp last weekend.

And we are now around the halfway mark of spring ball as the annual Orange-White spring football game lies ahead at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on April 15. Texas has a little more than a half-dozen practices remaining before the spring game arrives in a few weeks.

There are plenty of notes and nuggets that came out of the first few weeks of spring practice. Among the significant spring practice notes are some early enrollees that have stood out to kick off camp.

Of the more than 12 new additions to the program this spring, it looks like Sark and the Longhorns will have quite a few immediate contributors in the mix for the 2023 campaign.

Most impressive early enrollees for Texas football in the first three weeks of spring

With that in mind, here’s a look at three of the most impressive true freshman early enrollees around the halfway mark of spring camp.

Jaydon Chatman, OT

Although the 2023 recruiting class didn’t bring in as many highly-rated blue-chips as the year prior, offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns still have plenty to be excited about with this group of true freshmen in the trenches.

Led by the former highly touted four-star recruit and true freshman offensive tackle Jaydon Chatman, Texas has three or four early enrollees along the offensive line that have impressed so far this offseason. Chatman might be the most impressive of the group so far this spring, though.

The true freshmen offensive tackle that we’ve heard the most about in the last couple of weeks is Chatman. He’s really got down to work since the end of spring break and pushed for some second-team reps along the offensive line.

Bobby Burton of Inside Texas has mentioned how impressive Chatman was in spring ball since spring break on a couple of occasions of late. That includes a write-up he did on March 23, talking about how Chatman was coming on “particularly strong of late”.

Chatman started out the spring as the offensive line early enrollee that looked the readiest to solidify a spot on the two-deep in camp. And his performance in practice of late has only reassured that take we had heading into spring camp.
