We’ve heard a lot of positive things about the direction of redshirt sophomore wide receiver Casey Cain’s game coming out of practice this week. It sounds like Cain is starting to connect the dots in his first spring camp under new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson.

We talked on the site this week about Cain’s progression from a few different technical aspects this spring. He is improving his route running ability and continues to work on his hands, which are two areas he needed to progress this offseason.

Cain was limited in his usage on the boundary last season, despite redshirt sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Neyor missing the entire year due to a season-ending knee injury he suffered in a fall scrimmage. It wasn’t until the Alamo Bowl against the Washington Huskies that Cain was even targeted more than three times in a single game.

Cain had a breakout game in the Alamo Bowl loss to Washington in December, registering more than 100 receiving yards for the first time in his career.

It sounds like Cain is starting to parlay that momentum into results on the practice field in the last couple of weeks. From what we’re hearing, this week of Cain’s best of spring camp thus far. If he continues to perform well, he’s hitting his stride at the right time just a few weeks before the spring game on April 15.
