Johntay Cook II

The highest-rated wide receiver signee for the Longhorns in the 2023 class is true freshman Johntay Cook II. The former elite five-star DeSoto wide receiver recruit has met and potentially even exceeded expectations with his performance so far this spring.

Cook is another wideout mentioned by a team source in that aforementioned Horns247 spring camp piece that will be “tough to keep off the field” this fall. Yet, saying that it will be difficult to keep Cook off the field feels like a more obvious statement than it is for Moore.

The second that Sark and the Longhorns were able to secure a commitment from Cook last summer, you almost knew that it was going to be difficult for him to be kept off the field during his true freshman campaign. Cook is just too talented and explosive in the open field for him not to get some key live-game reps during his first season wearing the Burnt Orange.

The expectation for Cook when he arrived on campus a couple of months ago was for him to push rising junior wide receiver Xavier Worthy this offseason at the field spot. And it sounds like that is exactly what Cook is doing through the first few weeks of spring practice.

Even with Worthy returning at field receiver this year, Cook is going to be one of the top playmakers in the two-deep at wideout for the Longhorns in the fall.
