In a few weeks, Texas football will likely see a long drought ending in the 2023 NFL Draft. The former Texas All-American junior running back Bijan Robinson will likely end the drought for the Longhorns for first-round picks in the NFL Draft, which goes back to 2015.

The last time the Longhorns had a first-round pick in the NFL Draft was defensive tackle Malcom Brown, who was selected 32nd overall by the New England Patriots in 2015.

Yet, Bijan is widely projected to be selected in the middle-to-latter picks in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. And one of the teams that seem to be a favorite landing spot for Bijan in the first round of the draft is the Dallas Cowboys.

ESPN’s Todd McShay even mentioned in his latest 2023 NFL Mock Draft special in the last week that he believes Bijan could be someone that the Cowboys look to trade up for in the first round. In his mock draft special on April 4, McShay floated the idea that the Cowboys could trade up in the first round of the draft to make sure it can select Bijan.

McShay specifically targeted the Detroit Lions as a potential trade partner for the Cowboys to move up in the first round to nab Bijan.

This is an interesting idea since McShay had the Lions picking Bijan in the 18th spot in the first round of the 2023 draft in his latest mock. Thus, it makes sense that he thought of the idea for the Cowboys to trade up in the first round into the Lions’ spot if this mock draft were to become a reality.

McShay has kept Bijan as the top running back on his draft board for a good while now. And while the running back position isn’t valued as highly as it once was a couple of decades ago in the NFL Draft, it looks like Bijan is still destined to be selected in the first round on April 27.
