Texas leads the Big 12 in offense

The difference we saw on the offensive end between Chris Beard’s 42 games as the head coach of Texas and Terry’s 30 games was a more significant gap than you might think.

The Longhorns averaged 71.1 points per game with Beard. With Terry, that number jumped up to 77.1. Since Terry took over, Texas ranked 19th nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency.

Last season, Texas finished the year ranked second in the Big 12 in points per game at 76.0. I expect that number only to increase going forward.

Looking at the projected roster construction for next season, Coach Terry will have a team full of athletes who excel in transition. I expect him to let freshman AJ Johnson and Ron Holland get out and use their athleticism. Pairing these younger guys with proven scorers like Dylan Disu and Tyrese Hunter has me feeling very bullish about the Longhorns’ offensive prowess next season.

While Terry constantly harps on team defense, I believe this team is poised to be lethal on the offensive end in 2023/24.
