Terry Bussey, ATH

One of the elite prospects that Texas is prioritizing this spring in the 2024 class is the five-star Timpson (TX) wide receiver/athlete Terry Bussey. Texas is making a push to close the gap on the Texas A&M Aggies this spring with the 5-foot-10 and 180-pound in-state athlete.

Texas A&M has a longstanding relationship with Bussey that goes back more than one year. College Station is also one of the places that Bussey has visited the most since his recruitment started to heat up last summer.

He’s visited College Station four times since last summer. Texas A&M was also one of the first Power Five schools to offer him last offseason.

Thus, it’s easy to see why Texas has so much ground to make up in this recruitment. But that hasn’t stopped the likes of cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and co-DC Pete Kwiatkowski from throwing the kitchen sink at this recruitment this spring.

As a side note, the reason why Joseph and PK are leading this recruitment for the Longhorns is that they offered Bussey as a defensive back. Meanwhile, a lot of the other Power Five schools that have offered Bussey we’ve heard did so as a wideout.

It’s worth noting that Texas did impress Bussey when he made his third unofficial trip to campus last week in the midst of the relays. Bussey reportedly got to spend a lot of time with the Texas coaches (including Sark and safeties coach Blake Gideon) while also getting to visit the facilities.

Texas is going to continue to push hard in this recruitment heading into the summer. I don’t know if Bussey is going to be the type of recruit that Texas fights through the whistle for, but he certainly fits the mold of a versatile defensive back that Sark and the Longhorns love to get that can be cross-trained at multiple positions in the secondary.
