Texas Baseball: Kansas State series schedule updated after rain delay
Head coach David Pierce and No. 21 ranked Texas baseball were supposed to begin their three-game weekend series against the Kansas State Wildcats at home at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin on April 6. Yet, adverse weather wound up pushing the opener back for the series this weekend between Texas and Kansas State to the following day.
The official Texas baseball Twitter page posted on the evening of April 6 that the new series schedule will begin on April 7, with the first pitch time set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
The next two games in the series between Texas and Kansas State this weekend will be as follows.
- Game 2: April 8, 2:30 p.m. CT
- Game 3: April 9, 1:00 p.m. CT
All three of the games this weekend against Kansas State at the Disch in Austin will be broadcast live on Longhorn Network. You can also follow along with the live stats on Sidearm Stats.
New schedule released for No. 21 Texas baseball vs. Kansas State this weekend
On the mound to open up the series against Kansas State will be the standout junior left-handed pitcher Lucas Gordon. Texas’ ace will be looking for his third win of the season. Gordon comes into this one boasting a record of 2-0 with a stellar 2.04 earned run average. He earned Texas’ only win in last weekend’s hard-fought series on the road against the No. 17 Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Texas comes into this game with a record of 21-9 (4-2 Big 12) following a convincing 7-1 win at the Disch on April 4 over the Air Force Falcons. If Texas can come up with two or three wins this weekend over Kansas State at the Disch, it will have a shot to reclaim its spot atop the Big 12 standings over Oklahoma State and West Virginia.
Moreover, Kansas State is in the midst of a bit of a surprise season. Kansas State was picked to finish seventh out of nine teams in the Big 12 in the preseason poll this year. Yet, the Wildcats come into this weekend’s high-stakes series against the Longhorns with a 5-4 record in conference play, good for fourth place in the Big 12 standings.
Kansas State also comes into this series with an overall record of 19-12 on the season after a loss at home to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, by a score of 6-1 on April 4.
On the mound for Pierce and the Longhorns on April 8 will be right-hander Travis Sthele. The pitching matchup between Texas and Kansas State in the series finale on April 9 is still yet to be announced as of the writing of this article on the morning of April 7.
