When you see the name of the former elite five-star running back recruit and true freshman early enrollee CJ Baxter Jr. show up on a spring injury report, that can lead some fans to panic.

I must say that I had to take a deep breath after seeing Burton report the quad injury that Baxter suffered in practice on April 4. And similar to the Holmes and Moore injuries on Tuesday, Baxter left practice with this quad issue and did not return.

As was the case with Holmes and Moore, Baxter was also able to make a return to contact drills and the closed scrimmage in the last couple of days. In fact, it sounds like Baxter was a real stud for the Longhorns in the closed scrimmage on April 7.

I wouldn’t hesitate to say that Baxter was able to shake off this quad issue rather quickly. These types of bumps and bruises will unfortunately be part of the gig for Baxter, especially given how physical and big of a running back he is.

All in all, it’s good to hear that Baxter was able to work past this injury in a short matter of time. Baxter has looked the part of one of the best running backs right away this spring for Sark, RB coach Tashard Choice, and the Longhorns.
