The second of two running backs for the Longhorns on this list that stood out in the third scrimmage of spring ball is the former highly touted blue-chip recruit and sophomore Jaydon Blue. Baxter, sophomore Savion Red, and Blue were three of the most notable standouts we heard about at the skill positions in Friday’s scrimmage.

A pretty wild spring for Blue continued with him reportedly getting a lot of the first-team reps in the closed scrimmage on April 7. Blue apparently had some nice runs, most of which came between the tackles.

But it does sound like Blue was able to put some good vision on display by cutting a couple of runs back to the outside and picking up yards in chunks. Blue was also given the opportunity to make some plays as a receiver out of the backfield, which he took advantage of.

It was also nice to hear that Blue had some “explosive plays” out of the backfield and looked really elusive in the open field.

From what we’re hearing about Blue’s performance this spring in individual/team drills and scrimmage settings, he’s making a lot of the necessary strides to be a regular in the running back rotation this fall. Blue being able to contribute to the offense in a few different ways in the running and passing games are good signs that he will be an impact player out of the backfield this fall.
