Newly-hired full-time Texas basketball head coach Rodney Terry and his staff are being pretty active in the NCAA Transfer Portal this spring. Texas has made moves with a few key portal targets early this offseason, including the former Virginia Cavaliers redshirt junior big man Kadin Shedrick and USC Trojans junior shooting guard Reese Dixon-Waters.

The former of those two Texas transfer targets appears to be very much in play for Terry and the Longhorns this offseason. On3’s Joe Tipton reported on the night of April 9 that Texas cracked the top five for Shedrick.

The other four schools that made this round of finalist cuts for Shedrick are the Duke Blue Devils, Mizzou Tigers, Kansas State Wildcats, and Xavier Musketeers. There is a pretty heavy Big 12 influence among the finalist schools for the Raleigh, NC, native Shedrick.

A written report from On3’s Tipton on April 9 provides the visit schedule for Shedrick this spring among the finalist schools. Shedrick will reportedly visit Texas on April 18 before making the trip to Columbia, MO, to see Mizzou on April 19.

Priority portal big man Kadin Shedrick includes Texas basketball in top 5

Shedrick also just got done with a visit to Durham, NC, to see head coach Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils this weekend.

We’ve also heard about at least one Zoom conversation Shedrick had with the Texas staff since the two parties originally made contact a couple of weeks ago.

Shedrick is the top portal target among big men for Terry and the Longhorns early this offseason. We’ve heard about other big men in the portal Texas has made contact with this spring, including the future NBA Draft pick and former Oregon Ducks center Kel’el Ware. But Shedrick is the highest-priority big in the portal for the Longhorns at the moment as Texas tries to replace a few departing seniors (i.e. Timmy Allen, Christian Bishop, and potentially Dylan Disu).

Texas finished up the 2022-23 season with a record of 29-9 (12-6 Big 12) following a loss to the five-seed Miami Hurricanes in the Elite Eight late last month. Terry and the Longhorns are now replacing around a half-dozen departing players early this offseason after a stellar run during the 2022-23 campaign.
