The most important and highly-coveted big man target in the portal for the Longhorns early this offseason is the former Virginia redshirt junior center Shedrick. The lengthy 6-foot-11 and 220-pound Raleigh, NC, native big man will take a trip to the Forty Acres on April 18.

Texas made the cut for the five finalist schools from the former Virginia big man that was announced on April 9. The other four finalist schools that are still in the running in the race to land a commitment from Shedrick out of the portal this offseason are the Duke Blue Devils, Mizzou Tigers, Kansas State Wildcats, and Xavier Musketeers.

Shedrick already visited Duke last weekend. He’s also set to make the trip to Columbia, MO, to see Mizzou the day after his Texas visit, specifically on April 19.

At the moment, it looks like Duke is considered to be the top competition for Texas to land Shedrick out of the portal. Duke is the closest to home, in Durham, NC, for Shedrick among the five finalist schools.

It also sounds like Kansas State and Mizzou are making effective pushes in the race to land a commitment from Shedrick. But this is looking like it could ultimately come down to a battle between Duke and Texas if Terry and the Longhorns can make a big impression on Shedrick and convince him that Austin is the right fit for him during his trip next week.

After Texas lost out on the former USC Trojans priority junior transfer shooting guard Reese Dixon-Waters to the National Champion runner-up San Diego State Aztecs on April 11, Shedrick is about as close as it gets to a must-get portal target for the Longhorns.
