Texas Football: 3 standouts from the final full-pads spring practice
Early this week, Texas football got to take part in one of the final practices of spring camp. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian participated in the final full-pads spring practice on April 11. There will be one more spring practice later this week, but it won’t come with full pads as it will be a couple of days before the annual Orange-White spring football game at DKR on April 15.
Texas has now gone through more than a dozen spring practices, most of which came in full pads. Sark and the Longhorns have made ample strides on both sides of the ball this spring, which should give this team some real momentum heading into fall camp.
But we’ll get to see this Longhorns team finally get to return to some type of game action at DKR this coming weekend for the first time since the regular season finale win over the Baylor Bears on Black Friday. This final full-pads practice and the spring game will produce plenty of notes worth discussing before the conclusion of camp.
Texas football standouts from the final day of full-pads spring practice
With that in mind, here’s a look at three standouts from Texas’ final full-pads practice of spring ball.
Casey Cain, WR
One of the most impressive wide receivers in the last couple of weeks of spring practice for the Longhorns is hands down redshirt sophomore Casey Cain. From what we’ve heard in the latter stages of spring ball, Cain has impressed with his development in terms of his hands and route running ability.
A spring practice report from Eric Nahlin of Inside Texas on April 11 (paid content) mentioned Cain as a player that has looked good in camp and someone to watch in this weekend’s Orange-White Game. Cain could use a big spring game to put himself in a spot to compete for some valuable live-game reps at boundary receiver heading into the fall.
Moreover, it sounds like Cain continued to excel in individual and team drills during the full-pads practice on April 11. We heard his name mentioned more early this week than most other wideouts in a positive sense.
Cain will have some real momentum heading into the spring game coming off a high in the last couple of weeks of practice.
