For the first time since the regular season finale win last fall over the Baylor Bears on Black Friday, head coach Steve Sarkisian and Texas football will return to Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for some sort of game action this weekend. Texas will kick off the annual Orange-White spring football game at DKR on April 15, at 1 p.m. CT.

Sark and the Longhorns have plenty of storylines to dissect heading into the spring game weekend. There are some new additions to the program that we’re excited to see take to the field at DKR this weekend for some live spring game reps.

We will also get to see the progress that some of the returning players for the Longhorns this year have made so far this offseason.

It feels like there is more excitement and buzz surrounding this year’s spring camp than at any point in the last few offseasons for the Longhorns. That is likely a good sign for the direction of this program under Sark.

Texas football early enrollees ready to shine in the spring game

With that in mind, here’s a look at four early enrollees for the Longhorns that are bound to break out in the spring game on April 15.

Malik Muhammad, CB

One of the most highly anticipated and talented early enrollees for the Longhorns this semester was the former elite five-star recruit and Dallas, TX, native cornerback Malik Muhammad. The South Oak Cliff High School product had a very competitive run in spring practice for the Longhorns.

Muhammad has competed at a high level this spring, getting right down to work and showing that he is ready to make an impact on this second in the short term and over the long haul.

And there might not be a better atmosphere for Muhammad to make a big impression on the coaches and the fans than the spring game this weekend. Muhammad will get a chance to face some of the talented Texas wideouts in the two-deep to prove the physicality and coverage skills he brings to the table at the cornerback position.

I think Muhammad will be chomping at the bit to show some of his playmaking ability and physicality in the spring game. We saw Muhammad making big plays to grab picks in some of the biggest outings in the last few months for the former blue-chip cornerback recruit. He nabbed an impressive pick for South Oak Cliff in the state title game last fall and he a nice interception in All-American Bowl practice that was caught live on camera in February.
