Arch Manning, QB

It’s hard to ignore the elephant in the room for this coming weekend that we’re going to see the No. 1 ranked overall recruit in the nation in the 2023 class and true freshman quarterback Arch Manning for the first time in some sort of game action at DKR. After putting together a solid spring where he looked as advertised in practice, Arch will now get to prove himself in the Orange-White Game on April 15.

This spring game for Arch will have more on the line than just facing the spotlight of having the Manning name on the back of his jersey while getting to debut in some sort of live-game action at DKR. Arch will also be looking to prove that he is worthy of locking down the backup quarterback job heading into the fall behind redshirt sophomore Quinn Ewers.

If Arch finishes the spring on a high note and impresses the coaches during summer workouts, that could be enough to help him start to get a leg up on redshirt freshman quarterback Maalik Murphy in the competition for the backup job in fall camp.

Moreover, it will also be nice to see Arch in a live-game spring setting to get to toss the ball around to all of these talented wideouts that Texas has in the mix this year. Arch has found solid chemistry with fellow true freshman early enrollees at wideout in Johntay Cook II and DeAndre Moore Jr.

I’d assume Arch will be on the same team as at least one of those aforementioned early enrollee wideouts this weekend.
