The fourth loss to the NCAA Transfer Portal this week, and the second wide receiver, surfaced on April 15 for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program. On April 12, Texas lost the speedster and sophomore wide receiver Brenen Thompson to the portal.

Thompson was the first portal departure since the start of spring ball for the Longhorns. But his departure would be the first of a few portal losses for the Longhorns in the last few days. Texas also saw redshirt freshman linebacker Trevell Johnson and redshirt freshman edge rusher Derrick Brown enter the portal on April 12.

The next portal loss for the Longhorns would come about on the day that the transfer market opened up for non-grad transfers on April 15. Ahead of the Orange-White spring football game at DKR on April 15, Texas lost sophomore wide receiver Jaden Alexis to the portal.

It was reported by On3’s Matt Zenitz on the morning of April 15 that Alexis would officially be entering the transfer portal this weekend after spending two seasons at Texas.

The 6-foot and 190-pound Alexis only appeared in one game in the last two seasons with the Longhorns. He took three offensive snaps in the season-opening win last fall over the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at home on Sep. 3. Each of those three snaps for Alexis came as a run blocker.

He took a redshirt during his true freshman campaign at Texas in 2021 after suffering a season-ending knee injury.

Alexis will have at least three years of eligibility remaining at his next stop out of the portal this offseason. He is a former four-star recruit out of Pompano Beach (FL) Monarch High School that signed with Texas in the 2021 class. Alexis picked Texas over offers from the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

During his two seasons at Texas, Alexis struggled with some knee injury issues that prevented him from getting much of a shot to make an impact on the offense in live-game settings. A change of scenery might do Alexis good, as he is still a very talented former blue-chip recruit that can contribute at a high level if he’s able to stay healthy.

Texas has now lost four wide receivers to the portal in the 2023 transfer class. Thompson and Alexis join fellow former Texas wideouts Agiye Hall and Troy Omeire as the Longhorns that entered the portal this offseason. Omeire is the only one of those four former Texas wideouts to find a new home out of the portal (Arizona State) as of the writing of this article on the morning of April 15.
