Predicting Texas football’s next transfer addition after Trill Carter
Bear Alexander, DL
The biggest name that Texas has apparently considered targeting in the transfer portal after the conclusion of spring ball on the Forty Acres last weekend is the former Georgia Bulldogs standout freshman defensive lineman Bear Alexander. It was really surprising to see Alexander’s name appear in the portal over the weekend upon the spring transfer window opening on April 15.
Alexander is currently rated as the top player available in the transfer portal on April 17. And it’s hard to disagree with that placement given the insane talent and championship pedigree that the 6-foot-3 and 315-pound Alexander brings to the table out of the portal this spring.
Some of the schools that appear to be throwing their hat in the ring that could get visits from Alexander are the USC Trojans, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas. Of course, there are plenty of Power Five schools that would love to bring Alexander into their program, but he’s probably only going to consider taking visits to see a few of his suitors before he makes a decision.
However, it looks as if Texas would have to make a pretty miraculous run at Alexander at the moment to win the race to land his commitment out of the portal. All the smoke concerning Alexander’s next potential landing spot this offseason is in USC’s direction.
A report from WeAreSC/On3’s Scott Schrader on April 17 (paid content) says that “all indications” are pointing to Alexander ending up at USC.
And the fact that Texas landed a commitment out of the portal early this week from Carter signals that the positional need might not be as great for Davis and the Longhorns now. But I would still imagine that if Alexander wants to take a visit to Texas in the coming days and weeks, the Longhorns would love to have him on campus.
