The most recent portal visitor that Terry and the Longhorns hosted on the 40 last weekend was the former VCU Rams sophomore 6-foot-4 and 190-pound guard Jayden Nunn. Multiple reports, including one from Justin Wells of Inside Texas on April 18 (paid content), confirm that Nunn was on campus during Texas’ spring football game at DKR last weekend.

It looks like the top schools in the race to land a commitment out of the portal from Nunn are the Longhorns and the Baylor Bears.

Baylor reportedly hosted Nunn on a multi-day visit to Waco late last week. And it looked like Baylor had the momentum in this portal recruitment heading into the weekend.

But Texas was able to swing some of the momentum for Nunn in its favor when he visited Austin. It sounds like Texas is getting a lot of support from some of the players from last year’s squad (i.e. Tyrese Hunter and Dylan Disu) in the portal recruitment of Nunn in the last few days.

Hunter and Nunn have a relationship that goes back multiple years, as they were once both committed to the Iowa State Cyclones as recruits out of high school.

Moreover, Nunn makes a lot of sense for the Longhorns as a secondary ball-handler that scores at a very efficient rate and could start at the two next season. Nunn is also a pretty underrated defender that utilizes his 6-foot-4 frame and lengthy wingspan to his advantage on the perimeter.

Nunn ranked in the top 10 in the Atlantic-10 in each of the last two seasons in steal percentage, while averaging 1.5 steals per game both years.

The combination of how much Terry seems to be prioritizing Nunn’s portal recruitment along with his natural fit in the backcourt unit as an immediate-impact two-guard makes him a really appealing portal target for the Longhorns.
