One of the biggest departures for the Texas basketball program and newly-hired full-time head coach Rodney Terry so far this offseason looks to be visiting a Big 12 foe this week. Mike Vernon of The Hearings tweeted on the morning of April 17 that the former elite five-star recruit and freshman guard Arterio Morris “is expected to visit Kansas on Tuesday this week”.

That report from Vernon on his Twitter timeline early this week was confirmed by Jayhawk Slant less than an hour later.

Morris’ visit to Lawrence to see the Kansas Jayhawks and head coach Bill Self is reportedly set to begin on April 18. From what we know as of the writing of this article on the morning of April 17, this will be the first visit that Morris takes since he originally entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on April 10.

This will be one of the most high-profile portal visits that take place around the Big 12 hoops landscape early this offseason.

Morris spent one season at Texas before entering the transfer portal last week. He was a reserve guard for the Longhorns during his true freshman campaign last season, averaging 11.7 minutes per game off the bench in 38 games played.

In those 38 games, Morris averaged 4.6 points per game, 1.4 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.2 blocks while shooting 41.1 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Morris committed to Texas in the 2022 class as a five-star guard recruit out of Kimball High School in Dallas, TX, over offers from the Memphis Tigers, Oregon Ducks, Arkansas Razorbacks, and Kansas, among a few other schools. He originally committed to former Texas head coach Chris Beard and assistant coach Jerrance Howard, neither of which is still on the Longhorns’ staff this offseason.

During his true freshman campaign, Morris helped the Longhorns to finish with a record of 29-9 (12-6 Big 12) following a loss in the Elite Eight to the five-seed Miami Hurricanes last month. Morris will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next stop out of the portal.
