Another busy week in the NCAA Transfer Portal is underway in the last couple of days for newly-hired full-time head coach Rodney Terry and the Texas basketball program. Texas has a couple of key portal visitors on tap for this week. And there are still plenty of roster spots that Terry and his staff are trying to fill, which will likely be mostly done via the portal.

Terry and the Longhorns have quite a few roster spots left to fill this offseason after losing multiple players from last year’s squad due to a variety of reasons. Texas lost freshman guards Rowan Brumbaugh and Arterio Morris to the transfer portal in the last couple of weeks.

Brumbaugh found his next home out of the portal with new head coach Ed Cooley and the Georgetown Hoyas in the Big East. Meanwhile, Morris took a visit to see the Big 12 foe Kansas Jayhawks this week but hasn’t yet found his next destination as of the writing of this article on the afternoon of April 19.

Texas has also lost some key players either due to a lack of eligibility or to NBA Draft declarations (i.e. Dillon Mitchell and Tyrese Hunter*). And then there’s the elite five-star combo guard recruit AJ Johnson, who de-committed from Texas and signed with Australia’s NBL ahead of the 2023-24 season.

All told, there is a lot that Terry has to replace. And hitting the right spots with the important portal visitors this week will be critical to help rebuild this roster with the right pieces this offseason.

Here’s a look at two critical portal visitors for the Longhorns this week.
