All around, I think the most important portal recruitment for Terry and the Longhorns staff to be able to win this spring is that of the former Oral Roberts senior guard and two-time Summit League Player of the Year Max Abmas. The 6-foot-1 and 165-pound two-time Summit League Tournament MVP is set to begin an official visit to Austin to see Terry and the Longhorns starting on April 19 (per Inside Texas’ Gerry Hamilton).

In fact, this report from IT mentions that Abmas “has been a top target” of Terry and his staff since the former ORU guard entered the portal on April 3.

Abmas is fresh off a visit earlier in the week to Manhattan, KS, to see head coach Jerome Tang and the Big 12 foe Kansas State Wildcats. Kansas State is also considering Abmas a top priority among its portal targets this spring.

Another top school that Abmas is considering is the Wichita State Shockers, given his connection to head coach Paul Mills (the former ORU head coach now in Wichita, KS).

Moreover, Abmas’ official visit to Austin will reportedly be a two-day trip that lasts through the end of the day on April 20. Texas really needs to hit a home run during this portal visit so that Terry and this staff can finally start building some momentum as this roster rebuild gets underway.

Next. 3 new portal targets Texas has contacted this week. dark

Texas has already whiffed on two of its top portal guard targets this offseason in the former USC Trojans junior shooting guard Reese Dixon-Waters (committed to San Diego State) and former VCU Rams sophomore guard Jayden Nunn (committed to Baylor).

I must say, though, that I would take Abmas over either one of the aforementioned transfer guards that the Longhorns were targeting in the portal this month.
