Texas Football: 3 blue-chip recruits that locked in official visits this week
Upon the conclusion of spring camp last weekend, Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian now turn the attention to the spring evaluation period on the recruiting trail. Texas is looking to get a wave of momentum on the recruiting trail for the 2023 class heading into the summer and the fall.
Sark and the Longhorns staff have played a patient game on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class so far this cycle.
An example of just how patient the Longhorns have taken this process of adding pieces to the 2024 class is the fact that Texas is just one of three schools in the Big 12 that currently has fewer than three commits. Texas currently holds commitments from two recruits in the 2024 class as of the morning of April 20.
But this is a planned strategy for Sark and the Longhorns staff to play a more patient game and get some of the top priority recruits in the boat during the summer and the fall. Texas can spend the winter and the spring building relationships and go through thorough evaluations before locking in some of its top priorities during the summer and fall.
Blue-chip priority 2024 recruits Texas football scheduled for summer official visits this week
If the building official visit schedule for the summer is indicative of anything, it’s that the Longhorns are going to have quite the run on the trail in the coming months this offseason. With that in mind, here’s a look at three blue-chip recruits that locked in official visits this week for the summer.
Freddie Dubose Jr., WR
Texas was able to get an official visit on the books with one of the top priorities among in-state wideouts in the 2024 class this week. A tweet on the night of April 18 from the highly touted four-star Schertz (TX) Smithson Valley wide receiver Freddie Dubose Jr. confirmed that he is on the books for an official visit in June.
Dubose will be making the official trip to the 40 on the weekend of June 17. This will be a multi-day visit from June 16-18.
The summer trip will be Dubose’s second trip to Austin in 2023 and the sixth since the start of 2022. Dubose also visited Texas for the second Junior Day weekend of the offseason, on March 25. He got to see the open practice/scrimmage on March 25 and seemed to enjoy his first trip to Austin of the 2023 offseason.
Dubose reportedly (per Inside Texas’ Justin Wells) that “UT’s practice was great” during Junior Day last month. He “loved watching all the guys compete” during the open practice and liked getting to see how new WR coach Chris Jackson operates.
We also heard Dubose mention in the last few weeks that his last trip was his “best visit yet” to the 40.
Texas made the top eight for Dubose, which he announced on social media on April 15. Sark, Jackson, and the Longhorns sit in a good spot with Dubose ahead of his Aug. 25 decision date.
