Texas Basketball: 5-Star F Liam McNeeley locks in official visit
A longtime priority of the Texas basketball program on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class, the elite five-star Montverde Academy forward Liam McNeeley, is now set to make the official visit to Austin in the next few days. Texas and newly-hired full-time head coach Rodney Terry will be getting McNeeley to campus for a multi-day official visit, starting on April 24.
Multiple reports, including one from Inside Texas’ Gerry Hamilton on April 22 confirmed that McNeeley will be making the trip to Austin early next week.
This will be the second official visit that McNeeley has made thus far. He also made the official trip last fall to see the Indiana Hoosiers, specifically on Sep. 23.
Moreover, McNeeley will be returning to the Forty Acres for the first time since he visited last summer. McNeeley made two unofficial visits to Texas in 2022, and three in total prior to the official trip early next week.

Terry and the Longhorns have done a nice job working their way back among the top schools in the race to land a commitment from McNeeley. While Texas was once considered the school that was potentially in pole position in this recruitment late last year, the situation that ensued with former head coach Chris Beard (along with the subsequent firing) was a bit of a setback for the Longhorns with McNeeley.
This staff had to work to rebuild this relationship in the last few months. And that’s exactly what Terry and the Longhorns staff did as Texas once again looks to be squarely in the midst of McNeeley’s top group of schools.
Texas has a huge opportunity here to continue making moves in this recruitment when McNeeley makes the two-day official visit to the 40 in roughly 48 hours. One of the biggest goals the Longhorns will seek to accomplish during this official visit with McNeeley next week is making some moves to separate from Indiana.
Indiana and Texas look like the top two schools, if some had to be named, in the race to land a commitment from McNeeley this spring.
Texas doesn’t currently hold any commitments from high school recruits in the 2024 class as of the writing of this article on April 22. McNeeley and the nation’s No. 1 ranked recruit in the 2024 class, five-star Dallas Lake Highlands wing Tre Johnson, are the top two priorities in this cycle for the Longhorns.
