The top portal priority for the Longhorns this spring is the former Oral Roberts senior guard and two-time Summit League Player of the Year Max Abmas. The fourth-year standout guard and Dallas, TX, native Abmas just wrapped up his official visit to the 40 less than 48 hours ago.

There looks to be a lot of confidence on the Texas side of things since the latter stages of Abmas’ trip to Austin a couple of days ago. If Texas didn’t come out of this official visit as Abmas’ top school, I would be pretty surprised.

Granted, we are going to learn a lot in the next 24 or 48 hours in terms of where Texas stands among Abmas’ top schools this spring.

Heading into the official visit, Texas needed to make a big move to solidify itself as the top school in this portal recruitment after Abmas had a successful trip to see head coach Jerome Tang and the Kansas State Wildcats roughly one week ago. Texas also wanted to start shutting down this portal recruitment to avoid Abmas making the trip to see former Oral Roberts head coach Paul Mills and the Wichita State Shockers next week.

If we don’t have any other visits on the docket for Abmas by the beginning of the day on April 24, I would have to consider that positive news for Terry and the Longhorns in this recruitment.

I’ve said this a lot on the site in the last week or so, but Abmas is the closest thing to a “must-get” portal recruitment for the Longhorns early this offseason. Terry needs a win on the recruiting trail, and Abmas could be the perfect piece to help rebuild this backcourt unit.
