A top priority for the Longhorns in the 2024 class among in-state defensive backs is the elite five-star Waco Connally cornerback Kobe Black. The 6-foot-1 and 190-pound blue-chip DB recruit Black is one of the primary focuses for cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and the Longhorns’ defensive staff heading into the summer.

In fact, Joseph was scheduled to make the visit to Connally High School earlier this week to visit Black. And it sounds like Texas was one of multiple top Power Five schools in this recruitment that sent coaches at Connally this week to see Black.

Texas has made some big moves with Black in the last few months. It looks like Texas is the school that has most of the buzz with Black this spring. He likes what he’s seen in the last few unofficial trips to the Forty Acres since last fall. Black has made it to campus twice since last fall, including a visit on the first Junior Day of the offseason in January.

If Texas can get Black on the books for an official visit on that massive visitor weekend in late June, that would be a big step to establishing pole position in this recruitment. Texas is in a really good spot with Black this spring, but another successful visit would go a long way to separating the Longhorns from the rest of the field in the race to land a commitment from the elite Connally CB.
