Predicting Texas basketball’s next transfer addition after Kadin Shedrick
Chendall Weaver, G
The most recent high-profile portal target on the Longhorns’ radar this spring is the former Texas-Arlington Mavericks freshman guard and the reigning WAC Newcomer of the Year Chendall Weaver. The 6-foot-3 and 165-pound two-guard was one of the most efficient shooters in the WAC last season, shooting nearly 45 percent from the field and better than 40 percent from deep.
This sharpshooting two-guard was a vital part of UT-Arlington’s offensive effort in the backcourt last season. He was a secondary playmaker and facilitator that was capable of creating his own shot and finding his open teammates for knockdown jumpers from the outside.
Weaver’s most proficient role at UT-Arlington, though, was as an off-ball catch-and-shoot threat from beyond the arc. He’s also an extremely effective tough-shot maker from deep, shooting nearly 48 percent on guarded catch-and-shoot three-point attempts last season (good for the 98th percentile in D1).
Adding a player like Weaver could be an instant upgrade to Texas’ floor spacing. And given the aforementioned lack of proven three-point shooting in the mix for Texas at the moment, prioritizing this portal recruitment for Weaver should be urgent for Terry and his staff.
The good news is that Texas has already made contact with Weaver since his name surfaced in the transfer portal early this week. And it sounds like Texas is set to make an in-home visit with Weaver later this week.
Some of the other schools that have reached out to Weaver since his name surfaced in the portal less than 24 hours ago are the Louisville Cardinals, Kentucky Wildcats, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Texas A&M Aggies, Ole Miss Rebels, and Ohio State Buckeyes, among many others.
