The Texas Longhorns might have fallen on hard times in the last few years, but it’s hard to argue that they haven’t been one of the best teams in college football history over the last 60 or 70 years. That’s been demonstrated time and time again by the fact that they’ve had a ton of players not only get drafted but drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft.

But just how good were all of those picks? Did they all manage to show out at the next level? The goal today, dear reader, is to demonstrate and rank how all those draft selections played out. It’s time to rank where the first-round selections fall when talking about the last 25 years, starting with the worst player to garner that honor.

Texas Longhorns 17th-best first-round NFL draft pick of the last 25 years: Marcus Tubbs

Defensive Tackle
Seattle Seahawks: 2004-2006

If we were making a list of the biggest busts of Texas Longhorns NFL drafts, Tubbs would definitely be right at the top of that list as well. He was selected by the Seahawks as the 23rd overall player drafted in 2004, but he never really came close to being the kind of defensive line anchor Seattle was hoping he’d be.

In his rookie season, Tubbs did play in 11 games but started just three and amassed just 13 tackles. In his sophomore season, he did take a starting job for Seattle, getting 11 starts and appearing in 11 games. He also improved his tackle numbers, as he got 40 tackles and two forced fumbles, but his third and final season in the NFL was not great.

His career ended in 2006 when he played just five games and got just two starts. Those facts mean that Marcus Tubbs had the shortest NFL career of any Texas Longhorns player that was drafted in the first round over the last quarter century.
