Texas Longhorns 4th-best first-round NFL draft pick of the last 25 years: Leonard Davis

Offensive tackle
Arizona Cardinals: 2001-2006
Dallas Cowboys: 2007-2010
San Francisco 49ers: 2011

Leonard Davis is one of those former Texas Longhorns players that had a great NFL career but maybe should have had an even better one considering he was the second overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. Though it’s also hard to claim he should have done better than 11 years in the NFL and made the Pro Bowl three times.

He was obviously one of the best offensive linemen of his generation, but he was also someone that was seen as expendable in the middle of his career when the Arizona Cardinals let him go after the 2006 season.

Davis seems to have come into his own a bit once he landed on the Dallas Cowboys. That’s where he played on two of his three Pro Bowl appearances. Davis is also someone who started pretty much every game he played in. That is he did right up until his final season in the NFL. That year he played for the San Francisco 49ers. While he appeared in 16 games, he didn’t start any of them. Still, he managed to show some longevity even in that season which is quite impressive.
