Texas Longhorns 3rd-best first-round NFL draft pick of the last 25 years: Derrick Johnson

Linebacker
Kansas City Chiefs: 2005-2017
Oakland Raiders: 2018

As I said earlier, there are few linebackers on this list for whatever reason. Few former Texas Longhorns stars on this list could remotely claim to have as good a career in the NFL than Derrick Johnson.

In hindsight, Johnson being the 15th overall selection was a steal. He was taken by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2005 and forged himself quite the career. In his rookie season he made a claim for being the best rookie of his class thanks to his 96 tackles and five passes defended. And that was far from his best career season.

His best stint with the Chiefs came a couple of years after he made it to the league. From 2010 to 2012, Johnson had at least 120 tackles in every season. He finished his Chiefs career with 1,154 tackles. He also finished his NFL career with the Oakland Raiders, but that hardly counts, considering that he only played six games in that final year.
