Texas Longhorns 12th-best first-round NFL draft pick of the last 25 years: Aaron Ross

Defensive Back
New York Giants : 2007-2011
Jacksonville Jaguars: 2012
New York Giants : 2013

Aaron was the 20th player selected in the 2007 draft and while it looked like he was originally going to be a staple for the New York Giants, even the defensive back would likely admit his NFL career didn’t turn out quite the way it did. However, managing to forge a seven-year career in the NFL is certainly nothing to sneeze at.

Playing for Texas from 2003 to 2007, Ross finished his career as one of the best defensive backs to play for the Longhorns over the last 30 years. That success at the college level failed to translate entirely to the NFL, where he was got plenty of playing time but often couldn’t hold onto a starting job with the Giants.

Interestingly enough, it was later in his career when he had his best season in New York. In 2011, he started 15 of the 16 games he appeared in and logged career highs in tackles and interceptions but he was still let go by the Giants after that season. In 2012, he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, starting just nine of 14 games. The next year, the former Texas Longhorns star wrapped up his NFL career with one more season with New York, though he played in just four games.
