Texas Longhorns 11th-best first-round NFL draft pick of the last 25 years: Roy Williams

Wide receiver
Detroit Lions: 2004-2008
Dallas Cowboys: 2008-2010
Chicago Bears: 2011

Roy Williams is easily one of the best former Texas Longhorns receivers in the last several decades. He was someone who, after two straight 1,000-yard seasons in Austin, he was thought to be a shoo-in for one of the top receivers in the NFL.

The Detroit Lions certainly thought they had a perennial Pro-Bowler when Williams hauled down 54 catches in his rookie season, despite only starting 12 games and playing in 14. He definitely looked like he was going to come into his own when he had 82 catches for over 1,300 yards.

Unfortunately, the former Texas Longhorns star never came close to putting up those kinds of numbers again. The man who was the seventh overall pick in the 2004 draft started seeing his numbers head downhill rather precipitously after that big season.

In 2008, he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, who thought they might have their next Michael Irvin. Instead, he never logged more than 38 catches in a season. In 2011, he tried to give his career one more jumpstart but topped out at 38 catches again and then called it a career after that year.
