Texas Football: Fast rising 4-Star S Joshua Lair schedules OV to Austin
Among the hottest recruits of the spring in the state of Texas in the 2024 class is a recent Texas football offer, the highly touted four-star Missouri City (TX) Fort Bend Marshall safety Joshua Lair. The 6-foot-1 and 190-pound Lair saw his recruitment explode on the national scene this spring, garnering well over a dozen FBS offers since the start of February 2023.
One of the offers Lair received recently came from Texas, which he announced on social media on March 21, 2023. Lair visited Texas unofficially for the first time after receiving the offer from the Longhorns on the second Junior Day of the offseason on March 25.
Safeties coach Blake Gideon and the Longhorns made a big enough impression on Lair and his camp during his unofficial visit for Junior Day and the open practice/scrimmage to get him back on campus for an official visit this summer.
A report from Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas on the morning of April 27 (paid content) tells us that Lair is set to take an official visit to Austin to see the Longhorns on the weekend of June 17. Lair will reportedly take his official visit to Texas from June 16-18.

This IT report also mentioned that Gideon made the trip earlier this week to Fort Bend Marshall High School to see Lair. It’s pretty clear that Texas is prioritizing Lair among its in-state safety recruitments in the 2024 class this spring.
But Texas is facing a lot of competition among the schools prioritizing Lair’s recruitment this spring. Gideon and the Longhorns are facing stiff competition from the likes of the LSU Tigers, Baylor Bears, and Washington Huskies.
All three of those aforementioned competing schools with Texas on the recruiting trail for Lair also hosted him on unofficial visits during the spring. This group of four schools (Texas, LSU, Baylor, and Washington) all have now scheduled official visits with the blue-chip safety recruit.
- June 2-4: LSU
- June 9-11: Baylor
- June 16-18: Texas
- June 23-25: Washington
Texas wound up being one of more than a half-dozen schools Lair has visited this spring in the midst of a very busy visit schedule in the last couple of months. Some of the other schools he’s visited this spring are the Texas A&M Aggies (which he saw twice in as many months), TCU Horned Frogs (April 6), and the Houston Cougars (March 10).
Texas A&M and Houston are two of the schools that are pushing hard for that fifth official visit from Lair heading into the summer.
Moreover, the weekend of June 17 will be a big one for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail. Texas is crossing the double-digit threshold in terms of the number of official visitors set for that weekend, which now includes Lair, four-star athlete Aeryn Hampton, four-star safety Myles Davis, and five-star EDGE Jordan Ross.
Texas currently holds commitments from two recruits in the 2024 class as of April 27. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2024 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 60 in the nation.
