We’ve seen Rodney Terry and Texas basketball get on a roller coaster ride trying to rebuild this roster early in the 2023 offseason. Texas has lost multiple players to the NCAA Transfer Portal and due to a lack of remaining collegiate eligibility.

Two others have declared early for the 2023 NBA Draft (freshman forward Dillon Mitchell and sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter). And the remaining losses for Terry and the Longhorns were due to some detrimental de-commitments in the last month or so.

In the last week alone, Terry and the Longhorns picked up two commitments via the transfer portal while losing their highest-rated commitment from the high school ranks in the 2023 class. Texas picked up portal commitments from the former Virginia Cavaliers redshirt junior center Kadin Shedrick on April 23 and Oral Roberts standout senior guard Max Abmas on April 27.

But Texas lost the commitment of the elite five-star Duncanville forward Ron Holland on April 28.

Who’s next for Texas basketball in the portal after G Max Abmas

Losing Holland means that hitting the portal to rebuild this roster heading into the 2023-24 season becomes even more paramount. With that in mind, here’s a look at a prediction of who’s next to add to the 2023 portal class for the Longhorns after landing Abmas on April 27.

Tre White, SG

One of the most talented portal priorities for the Longhorns at this point of the offseason is the former USC Trojans freshman shooting guard/small forward Tre White. Texas made contact with White after his name surfaced in the transfer portal on April 19.

And it looks like White could emerge as one of the top wing targets this spring for Texas in the portal if Terry and his staff put their foot on the gas a bit more in this recruitment in the next few days. I say that because it looks like other schools such as the Louisville Cardinals and UCF Knights are pushing harder than the Longhorns in this portal recruitment.

In the last few days, White has made visits to UCF and Louisville. The Oklahoma State Cowboys, Kentucky Wildcats, and Auburn Tigers are three other schools that are involved in this portal recruitment.

The Dallas, TX, native White could be a realistic portal get for the Longhorns if Terry and his staff start to prioritize this communication and recruitment more in the coming days and weeks. Texas does have a depth need on the wing, and a spot open at the three in the starting five after the Holland de-commitment.
