An interesting portal recruitment that emerged for Terry and the Longhorns in the last few days involves the former elite five-star Atlanta (TX) High School recruit and Kentucky sophomore big man Daimion Collins. The 6-foot-9 and 205-pound center has drawn significant interest since he entered the portal last week.

There isn’t a definitive list that we have at the moment in terms of the full group of schools that have reached out and/or shown interest in Collins since he emerged in the portal on April 21.

What we have heard, though, is that Texas has engaged in at least a few conversations with Collins in the last week or so. If Collins wants to get closer to home, it would make sense that he would pick a school such as Texas as he has connections from his recruitment out of high school.

Texas also has the need to add frontcourt depth and more of a long-term impact guy among the bigs in this rotation upon the losses of players like Holland and Mitchell. Collins has an NBA ceiling with multiple years of eligibility remaining at his next stop out of the portal.

I like the idea of Texas potentially bringing in a guy like Collins to not only add frontcourt depth but also to add some long-term upside. Collins could be the fourth big man in the rotation for the Longhorns behind Shedrick, senior Dylan Disu, and potentially one more portal player.
