Upon the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft, we are now tracking the Texas football players that are getting a shot to make various NFL rosters as undrafted free agents. And one of the first Texas Exes signed as an undrafted free agent that we saw following the conclusion of the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft on April 29 was senior cornerback D’Shawn Jamison.

After going undrafted in the 2023 draft, Jamison signed a deal with the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC West. Jamison will now look to prove himself as a contributor on defense and special teams to earn a roster spot with the 49ers.

Jamison was a multi-year starter at cornerback and a four-year special teams player for the Longhorns. He was one of the most productive playmakers at the cornerback position for the Longhorns in the last decade, registering 140 career combined tackles, six tackles for loss, six interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 17 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.

The 5-foot-10 and 190-pound Jamison also was an explosive returner on special teams for the Longhorns in the last few years. He racked up more than 1,400 career kick return yards while returning two kicks for touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Jamison registered more than 350 punt return yards and one punt return for a touchdown during his time at Texas.

Jamison could also make his mark at the next level with a coverage unit on special teams. He played a role in blocking and/or returning multiple punts at Texas in the last couple of seasons.

If you ask me, Jamison makes a good case for making the 49ers roster given the value he brings to the table on defense and special teams. Size and physicality will be limitations for him. But his playmaking and explosiveness should allow him to find a role on at least one side of the ball at the next level.

Jamison is the first former Longhorn to either sign with or get drafted by the 49ers this offseason.
